Part of my recent vacation took me to visiting family in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. That’s where I met the little cat who you met last week. While BSing about sports I decided to see what would happen if I tried to use my William Hill app to place a wager on a game outside of Nevada state lines.
FAIL!
Using the app wasn’t an entire fail but placing the wager didn’t work. I was able to browse all of the point spreads for the college football games I was curious about. I was able to line up a parlay as well but when I went to place the wager I was met with the fail screen above.
The app is still useful when you’re not in Nevada even if you can’t place wagers. You can keep funds in your account when you’re not in Las Vegas and this is a good way to keep track of actual live odds and point spreads. You can use the point spreads to practice wagering while you are away from Las Vegas or you can use the info to prepare for your wagers just before your next trip.
I was expecting a fail when I tried to place the wager. William Hill (and all sports gaming apps) not only track your phone by its internal GPS but they triangulate it’s location using mobile phone satellites. I’m not sure how that all works but the Nevada Gaming Commission is very strict about this.
I’d like to personally thank William Hill for not allowing me to make this particular parlay while I was away. I don’t remember the specific teams anymore but I know it lost. Onward and upward!
