Spiegelworld, the audacious entertainment trailblazer behind the hit Las Vegas shows OPIUM, Absinthe and Atomic Saloon Show, today premieres its first-ever fully-integrated dining and cocktail concept, Superfrico, at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. In tandem with the celebrated reopening of OPIUM right next door, the restaurant officially opens tonight, breaking down the walls between fine dining and the anything-goes, submersive splurges Las Vegas visitors crave.
“With Superfrico, we’ve truly upped the ante in our quest to deliver the unexpected in Vegas,” says Ross Mollison, Spiegelworld’s Impresario Extraordinaire. “The doors are finally open, the grills are hot and so is the energy throughout the space. We are beyond ecstatic to be able to share this venture with everyone, as we lean into the never-seen, never-done, never-tasted before ethos that comes with a transformative journey through Vegas. It’s our love letter to this unique city: made for and by the same creative minds that are drawn to Vegas. Our doors don’t only open to some of the best food and drink on The Strip (and definitely the only Italian American Psychedelic fare), but to a world of unmatched art curation and entertainers who use this space as both their canvas and their clubhouse. Your invitation to join the ultimate be-all, end-all, taste-all house party starts today.”
The Atmosphere
Whether dining at Superfrico or coming to see OPIUM next door, all guests enter through the enigmatic purple doors on level 2 of The Cosmopolitan’s Chelsea Tower. Once inside, divisions between the two experiences blur and bend, as diners and showgoers alike discover the art, amusements and unmistakable house-party atmosphere that only Spiegelworld delivers. Guests are encouraged to explore Superfrico’s multitude of interconnected, imaginatively themed bars, lounges and dining rooms.
A glimpse of what’s inside:
- The Artery: Housing a filled-to-the-rafters art collection of every medium and bathed in technicolor, The Artery dining room presents a first-of-its-kind curation of Italian American Psychedelic cuisine.
- The Studio: Sit down for dinner or lounge at the bar for a cocktail or a meal while the house DJ drives the party music engine with an eclectic vinyl record collection.
- The Ski Lodge: Vegas’ first aprés-ski cocktail bar, complete with a round-the-clock roaring fire and a picture window overlooking the world’s finest winter skiing destinations.
- The Bottle-O: House-blended and bottled cocktail flasks and a selection of superior small-batch beverages are available to enjoy onsite or on the go at The Strip’s most spirited gift shop.
The Menu
World-renowned culinary and cocktail supertalents have been tapped to bring Superfrico’s menu to life including Chef and “International Pizza Czar” Anthony Falco, Executive Chef Mitch Emge, of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, “Principal Pourer” and James Beard, World 50 Best Bars and Tales of the Cocktail award winning mixologist Leo Robitschek and General Manager Greisy Pacton, of Gordon Ramsay Steak. Dubbed as “Italian American Psychedelic,” the culinary experience honors the recipes and traditions of generations of Sicilian family cooks while taking fearless detours with international ingredients and techniques.
A mind-altering, multi-sensory melting pot of a menu, Superfrico showcases Falco’s selection of pizza perfection, pasta dishes, steaks, seafood, small plates, signature desserts and late-night finales. Including both round, Neapolitan-style and perfectly square, high-loft personal pizzas with crispy, cheesy “frico” edges, the menu features a Pistachio Mortadella Pizza that is a blend of Northern and Southern Italian flavors, pairing silky-textured sliced pork with house-made stracciatella and Turkish pistachio powder atop an airy crust with a satisfying crunch. For entrees that deliver an unexpected twist on a classic, the Chicken Parm is marinated in yuzu-based ponzu sauce and coated with a mix of Japanese panko and house-made sourdough breadcrumbs for a delectable umami and tomato flavor profile. The Bistecca alla Fiorentina—an impressive 40-ounce Creekstone tomahawk – is wet-aged in shio koji, the fermented marinade used to make miso, soy sauce and sake, to employ international flavors and technique to stunning effect. To finish, a Roasted Pineapple Sorbetto with lime zest, vanilla and a Tajín rim is served for dessert.
In addition to creating unique menus for Superfrico’s multiple bars, Robitschek’s house-blended and bottled cocktail flasks plus a selection of superior small-batch beverages can also be enjoyed to-go from Superfrico’s onsite Bottle-O retail store. Custom-crafted cocktails on offer will include the Under the Host Martini, an elevated riff on the Dirty Martini (house-made, bianco vermouth-based brine infused with castelvetrano olive and white balsamic); and the Penguins Take Manhattan, named after Superfrico’s two striding mascots (black sesame-infused bourbon, rum, sherry and Cynar, served in a white chocolate and sesame-dipped coupe).
Providing an elevated dining experience that complements the wild entertainment ride that Spiegelworld is best known for, new mobile ordering technology now allows OPIUM guests, or “passengers,” to feast on Superfrico’s personal pan-sized pizza and cocktails delivered directly to their seats from the restaurant next door.
The Art
Spiegelworld’s globally-connected art consultant, Heather Harmon, has worked with Superfrico’s creative team to expand Spiegelworld’s extensive art collection and fill the restaurant’s walls, reflecting the company’s circus roots and its passion for handcrafted, repurposed and one-of-a-kind works.
Superfrico features more than 20 original works, from illustration to neon, by a variety of internationally significant artists. Adehla Lee’s Psycho Pop Party, a candy-colored acrylic painting and the first work to be commissioned for Superfrico, inspired and informed Superfrico’s visual DNA and is designed to expose guests to the fantastical in yet another way. In addition, works include Paranormal Activity by Tiza, a neon companion piece to the Purple Lodge, the “Twin Peaks”/Lynchian inspired entrance to the OPIUM Theatre next to Superfrico, and over 20 action figures created by Morgan Philips’ (also known as The Sucklord) based on the OPIUM characters, who regularly party-crash the restaurant.
Today’s combined opening of Superfrico and OPIUM brings a much anticipated, innovative take on dining and entertainment to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Open Wednesday to Sunday, reservations can be made at Superfrico.com. Tickets for OPIUM can be purchased at spiegelworld.com/opium with performances every Wednesday through Sunday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
