There was an explosion and fire behind Monte Carlo on Saturday night. People seemed to freak out since it was to an electric transformer knocking out power at CityCenter. It also stopped traffic on the I 15 for a couple of hours. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
It was the first major incident I’ve seen take place since I moved to Las Vegas. There was no major media coverage of the fire – no TV, no immediate news papers, nothing. However, there were lots of tweets from people in the area that were shared immediately. The mainstream media was not a part of covering this fire. It was all “regular people.” I’m not sure if that is a statement on how media is covered nowadays or on the small town news media, but it’s something that stood out to me. A quick hit from ABC news is below.
