Boyd Gaming App Now Offering Horse Betting

BConnectedHorse

Update: This went live today. You can download the app for iOs and Android here.

I just confirmed that the B-Connected sports wagering app from Boyd Gaming will be adding Parimutuel horse wagering shortly. The date isn’t ready to be revealed yet but I’m told it will be released “very soon.”

The new app by miomni will combine race and sports wagering. I believe tThis will be the first Nevada sports wagering app to offer both race and sports.

Miomni is the software provider for Westgate, Wynn, Treasure Island and Aliante (until they become a Boyd Gaming property). I didn’t pry to see if any of the other properties will follow Boyd Gaming into horse racing.

I’ll have more details on the new app when it’s released. In the meantime, you can download any of the sports wagering apps from here.

Westgate SuperBook Sports Wagering App Now Available

Westgate SuperBook

Westgate SuperBook App

Westgate SuperBook now has sports wagering app. The long-awaited app was rumored to be released in time for the beginning of the NFL season. The release date may have missed that mark but it will be available in time to use during the Super Bowl.

The Westgate SuperBook is the king of prop bets for the Super Bowl. An app is a great way to navigate through the hundreds of wagering options that Westgate SuperBook will have for the Super Bowl.

Nevada sports wagering apps can only be used in Nevada. Your mobile signal is tracked by GPS and satellite. Your wagering account must be filled in person at the SuperBook. No credit cards are allowed.

The app uses Miomni Gaming software which you’ll find in the B-Connected Sports (Boyd Gaming), Aliente Sports and soon to be available Wynn sports wagering app. The downside with this app is that you must turn your wifi off to use it. The upside is that the SuperBook has odds you won’t find anywhere else (like Aussie Rules Football!).

You’ll need to be a member of the Westgate players club and deposit at least $100 to start. If you’re a bigger bettor you’ll be happy to know that limits should be about half of what you can place in the casino. The upcoming Wynn app will supposedly have limits between $300-$500.

Vegas Dave Wins $2.5 Million Payout on the World Series

Vegas Dave

Vegas Dave

Here are more details on Vegas Dave and the $2.5 Million he won on the Kansas City Royals winning the World Series.

Over the weekend I tweeted about my surprise that I was only just hearing about this now. News like this usually travels more quickly. Now there’s some publicly released information on the wager(s) and Vegas Dave.

Dave Oancea, aka “Vegas Dave,” one of the most aggressive and successful future sports bettors in the gambling world, and World Series champions the Kansas City Royals.

“Vegas Dave” won a historic $2.5M payout – the largest future bet in the history of sports betting when the Kansas City Royals won last night’s World Series.

He placed his bet in week one when the odds were 30 to 1 and bet it all the way down to 8-1 (the Royals haven’t won a World Series in 30 years). Declining several opportunities to cash out and make a guaranteed $750,000, Vegas Dave showed his faith in the team by letting the bet ride. See all of his tickets here

Vegas Dave’s passionate, no-nonsense approach, along with actual postings of his tickets on his website validate his credibility as one of the most successful sports bettors of his time. His winnings have even prompted The Westgate casino to change their policy on accepting his bets, which will change the way casinos do sports betting (no longer accepting such extreme odds or allowing repeat bets). He plans to give back to his community by donating turkeys and toys to underprivileged Las Vegas residents during the holiday season.

I wasn’t familiar with Vegas Dave until this weekend so this section of the press release was useful.

About Dave Oancea

Dave Oancea, better known as “Vegas Dave” started his gambling career in Las Vegas 15 years ago after moving from Honolulu, Hawaii in pursuit of “making it big” in Sin City. After years of weathering major wins, devastating losses and even a two-month stint in Gamblers Anonymous, Dave eventually learned the discipline needed to stay successful as a professional gambler. Today, Dave is regarded as one of the elite sports handicappers of this era. He regularly wagers high stakes bets from $100,000-200,000 per week on sporting events. He also consults for approximately 2,500 people on their bets. With the financial freedom he’s achieved through his gambling career, Dave is truly living his dream in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas. Green Valley Ranch Sports Book Renovations Coming Soon

Red Rock Sports Book

Red Rock Sports Book Screens Coming To Green Valley Ranch Soon

It seems like every week there’s news about a sports book in Vegas getting an upgrade. That’s wonderful news to me! Last week Station Casinos said that they will be installing the same amazing screens from the Red Rock Resort sports book into another property.

The next Station casino to get the beautiful screen experience is none other than Green Valley Ranch.

Green Valley Ranch is the other top-tier Station property besides Red Rock so this renovation makes sense. The sports book at Green Valley Ranch is already one of the best things about that casino and this upgrade will only make it better. These new screens will probably make the Green Valley Ranch sports book the best you’ll find in the Henderson area.

Station Casinos says that installation on the new screens at the Green Valley Ranch sports book will be in the “near future.”

Each screen at Red Rock took a week to install. I’m not sure I see Green Valley Ranch potentially missing a screen during football season. I’m guessing Green Valley Ranch’s “near future” will be closer to February or March and in time for March Madness, but that’s just a guess.

Not to sound too hyperbolic but between the screen renovations at Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch and Westgate sports books there’s almost no reason to watch a game on the Vegas Strip.

A Look At The Renovated Red Rock Sports Book

Red Rock Sports Book

Red Rock Sports Book

I’ve been posting pictures and updates on the renovation of the Red Rock sports book as it’s been happening here and on twitter, instagram and facebook. Unlike some other recent sports book renovations this was mainly a television screen upgrade. Boy is this an upgrade.

Even at 20% brightness the new screens at the Red Rock sports book are the brightest and clearest screens you’ll find in any Vegas sports book.

The comparison I’ve heard most from the pictures I’ve posted are that they look like The Venetian sports book screens. The Venetian is generally lauded as having the best screens in Las Vegas. I’ll go out on a limb and say The Venetian screens are the second best now and here’s why.

The new 2.5mm NanoSlim LED displays are the largest of their kind in North America. They replace the rear projection systems that were installed when Red Rock Resort opened. The 2.5mm space between pixels offers almost twice the clarity of the old 4mm pixel spacing.

All three of the 17′ x 31.5′ screen use 4K Ultra HD technology and can each be configured to display screens in 45 different ways. That number can and will increase.

Here’s a look at what a typical afternoon at the Red Rock sports book will look like. Notice how the lines are displayed since it’s a slow day.

Red Rock Sports Book

When seasons change and there’s a need to show lines for football, baseball, basketball and hockey the configurations can be changed quickly so you don’t have to wait for rotating boards only showing limited lines. This will be great in the winter.

Red Rock Sports Book

Red Rock Sports Book

When there are nights with standalone football games the screens can be changed from showing multiple games to one big 17 x 31 foot TV. You could probably see this display from the Vegas Strip if it were outside. Check out that middle screen.

The next photo is kind of blurry on purpose (not really but it makes my point). The scroll at the bottom of the screens is huge and easy to read while the fonts used for the lines are smaller and a little more difficult to read unless you have good vision or are close to the screens. The size isn’t bad but it’s something that stood out to me.

Red Rock Sports Book

As I mentioned earlier this was only a viewing upgrade. The seat configuration remains the same with 75% of the seats being chairs and desks while 25% are comfy lounge chairs. I’d prefer the seating to be the other way but the Red Rock sports book still gets a lot of people betting on the ponies.

Summary

The new screens at the Red Rock sports book are the best you’ll find in Las Vegas. I live right down the street so and my opinion for this sports book may have a little bias.

While The Venetian may offer the best screens on the Vegas Strip but I can’t vouch for it being the best sports book since you probably won’t get a seat during football season unless you’re set up with a CG Technology account and bet with them while you’re watching games.

For comparison 98% of the seating at the Red Rock sports book is open to anyone who visits. The 2% is saved for VIP guests and higher tier Boarding Pass players club members.

The Mirage sports book is great but the clarity of their screens can’t be compared with Red Rock. When Westgate unveils their new sports book screens I’m told they will be similar but not as good as the Red Rock setup.

I’ve been recommending the Red Rock sports book to people even when the screens needed updating. Now that the screens have been upgraded I think the Red Rock sports book is easily one of the best sports books in Vegas. Easily.

Rumor: The Mirage And Marriott To Partner

The Mirage

The Mirage

By now you’ve probably read the rumors and analyst discussion about MGM Resorts selling The Mirage. Today MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren said that The Mirage isn’t on the market. Well, if the rumors about The Mirage already being sold are true than he’s not lying. It’s not on the market.

My source that says the The Mirage has been sold also says that they will have a new hotel partner once they’re no longer be a part of M Life, MGM Resorts’ players club.

It’s rumored that Marriott will be the hotel partner for The Mirage once the sale goes through.

It’s difficult to be an independent hotel-casino operator on the Vegas Strip so Starwood Capital Group is taking steps to bring in a partner to help fill the hotel. Marriott was just voted the #1 national hotel chain rewards program by US News and World Report.

Starwood is also rumored to bringing in Paragon Gaming to operate the casino. Paragon currently operates the Westgate casino and used to operate the Riviera casino.

Marriott is currently the hotel partner for Cosmopolitan but it’s been rumor for while that the relationship will end soon since Blackstone, owners of Cosmo, also owns Hilton.

You can see the press release for MGM Resorts’ quarterly earnings here.

Red Rock Sportsbook Being Renovated

Red Rock Sportsbook

Red Rock Sportsbook

If you’ve read this blog for a while or follow me on twitter you probably know that Red Rock Resort is my 2nd office and local bar. During the summer I’m at the casino at least 2-3 times a week. That covered parking is nice on hot and sunny days.

On a good day I’ll work in a quiet area then head to the sportsbook for some low key work. For the past week or so I’ve noticed that there has been a drop cloth covering one of the large screens. On my last visit (Saturday) I noticed that the cloth moved to the center screen revealing a new clear screen to the left.

You may not be able to tell from the photo above but the clarity from the screen all the way on the right is much much better. The screen upgrade is definitely overdue and come just in time for football season.

While I was in the sportsbook I think I heard improved audio but I could have just been looking for that. I’m told that I’ll get an overview of the full upgrades in a few weeks.

The Red Rock sportsbook is probably the best off strip sportsbook besides the Westgate. I look forward to seeing what else they do. Soon enough.

UPDATE: They’ve installed the 2nd of 3 screens.

UPDATE 2: Screen installation is complete.

Caesars Readying New Sportsbook Brand And Sports Wagering App

Caesars Entertainment Chapter 11

Caesars Entertainment Chapter 11

I just received a survey from Caesars Entertainment about their plans for mobile sports wagering.

Actually Caesars’ plan is to rename and rebrand ALL of their sportsbook operations.

There’s no release date on the 2Bet Sportsbook app or website. In fact, the name may change if those answering the survey voted negatively on the name like I did.

Here’s the information on 2Bet Sportsbook the survey:

2Bet Sportsbook – a network of physical sportsbooks located in casinos, primarily on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as in other locations in Nevada such as Lake Tahoe, Reno, and Laughlin. At any 2Bet Sportsbook location, players may bet on sports and horeseracing, watch both on large high-definition screens, and enjoy food and beverage (including alcoholic beverages).

We will also be launching www.2betsportsbook.com, a mobile betting app where anyone 21 years and older who is located in Nevada can bet on sports directly from their mobile devices (e.g., smartphones and tablets). Customers will be able to wager on in-play events happening in real-time, such as betting the spread, moneyline, and over/under, which update throughout the game. Customers will also be able to bet on a variety of markets that currently do not exist such as “the highest scoring quarter,” “will an individual player exceed a certain number of points scored,” and “which team will score a certain number of points first”, all in real-time while games are in-progress.

Caesars is the latest casino operator who will be releasing a mobile sports wagering option. MGM Resorts, Wynn, Westgate and others have app releases planned for later this year. You can find information on this on Vegas Chatter.

Details are sure to follow.

Minor Update: It looks as though Caesars is testing the name “The Spread” as well. I like that better. Hat Tip to @JHook9.

Minor Update #2: It looks as though Caesars is also testing the name “WSOP Sportsbook”. Hat Tip to @KirkSports.

Westgate SuperBook Should Have Mobile Wagering Soon

LVH SuperBook - Las Vegas Hotel

LVH SuperBook

On the latest episode of the “Behind The Betspodcast (download at itunes) Jeff Sherman from the Westgate SuperBook mentioned that the sportsbook is working on mobile wagering and hopes to have it ready by end of the year.

I listen to podcasts on 2x speed so I had to rewind the podcast to make sure that I heard it correctly. I tweeted looking for confirmation and I received it from Jeff (@golfodds) shortly thereafter.

@MeltzVegas @LVSuperBook correct

It’s only a matter of time before every sportsbook operator in Nevada offers wagering via mobile device. Last year I hinted that MGM would offer mobile wagering soon and that was confirmed earlier this year in an article I wrote for Vegas Chatter.

Westgate having mobile wagering will certainly help their bottom line and will offer the best odds to more bettors (like me) but it won’t be a game changer. They’re still only a single casino and as @John_Mehaffey states it will take a lot more coverage to reach as many people as the larger sportsbook operators.

That being said this is still an exciting moment for sports bettors. I rarely visit the Westgate so this gives me a chance to wager with their lines without driving out to the other side of the Vegas Strip. This gives everyone an opportunity to wager with the best odds without visiting the Westgate.

The Westgate is undergoing a lot of renovations (see 5 at Vegas.buzz) and the sportsbook renovation should be finished by football season. I actually look forward to my next visit to the Westgate – that’s something I’ve never said before (even when it was LVH or the Hilton).
