I’m a writer and marketing consultant in Las Vegas. When I’m not in front of a computer somewhere in Vegas I’m usually doing do 1 of 3 things: Eating, Drinking or Gambling. That’s the idea behind EDGe Vegas.
I grew up on the mean streets of the South Bronx and I’m the rare combination of Yankees and Jets fan. This odd combination may explain the often has a contrarian point of view. It’s not that the Yankees and Jets are rivals, it’s that they’re rarely mentioned together in the same breath. Seeing things through those eyes offers a unique way to see life.
I learned about gambling at a young age. Gambling was introduced to me in the fourth grade where I played poker in school for pennies. As a teen, I sold baseball cards at conventions and worked at a candy store down the street from a bookie. This bookie took bets on anything from the mainstream sports to the last three digits of the purse for certain horse races. Yeah, that’s a thing. These formative years allowed me to grow as an entrepreneur and learn about the gambling world.
When I turned 21 I learned about the legal side of gambling in Atlantic City. The first $5 I wagered in a casino was a spin on the Big 6 Wheel, which is one of the worst bets in the casino. Ironically, that $5 bet won $225 on the 45-1 shot. That was easy and, looking back I’m not surprised that it never happened again.
Since that first trip to Atlantic City, the Big 6 wheel hasn’t been played very much but there have been plenty of dice rolled, cards dealt and slot machines played. I’m not a professional gambler so life in a casino is a constant lesson to find the right mix of smart gambling and a good time. That translates into understanding the casino customer from all angles.
After college and a couple of jobs some friends and I opened a successful entertainment marketing and consulting company in New Jersey. Marketing techniques and roles within the company changed throughout my 10 years with the company.
My final role helped put me in the position I am today. Overseeing the digital marketing division became a passion. This is where I took an interest in learning how to blog and write so that I could more deeply understand some of the services rendered in the entertainment world.
A casino and gambling blog was born. There were no grand designs on the blog being a success since it was created to understand the basics of working with WordPress. 3 names and 4 years later my blog continues.
In 2010, I left the east coast and moved to Las Vegas, a place I had visited countless times and had everything I could want. Today I write and consult companies about everything a guy (or gal) could want to do for work and play in Las Vegas.
Tweet me @MeltzVegas at any time to say hi. Follow and you’ll be able to find all of my articles about gambling and life in Vegas casinos. You might also see me rant about sports bets and other Vegas news.
Writing about new restaurants, places to grab a drink and gambling is a tough job but somebody has to do it.
